I know their job is not easy, especially this time of year when spring fever has hit and “twitterpating” has begun.School bus drivers across North Carolina will bask in well-earned attention next week during School Bus Driver Appreciation Week, as individual schools and districts recognize drivers’ key role with various events and celebrations. Their work matters, safely transporting a thousand students to school, to activities, between campuses and home. There are many Good mornings, What’s ups, fist bumps, smiles that greet and end each day – drivers proudly present their honors in the freshly licked cupcake, broken cookie, or the every so often beautiful note or picture received thanking them for the difference made to a student! That is what they do. They are the first CHUSD faces our kids see in the morning they set the tone for the day and they make it a good one. They are a team they fill in wherever they are needed. Drivers courageously do this as kids yell, squeal, laugh, sometimes they choke, vomit, poop, sneeze the grossest stuff or any other variety of eThey make a difference each day they come to work. Each stop requires the same attention to detail as lives depends on it. I do not know what brought our amazing drivers to this job, but I am thankful they are here.ĭrivers celebrate birthdays, amazing school projects, the victories, the challenges faced by students our drivers notice and care and often seek help or answers for their studentsĭriving a school bus is a highly repetitive job but detail and attention keep our kids safe. So far this school year we have travelled (in addition to our daily routes), an additional 4000 plus miles taking home the after school program students, and over an additional 10,000 miles taking home the after practice sport students. Last month (March 2019) we had over 80 field trips which include sporting events and academic trips in just 21 days of school and 2 Saturdays. We pick up 22 special needs students in Coalinga, 12 in Huron, and one special Huron TK’er.ĭays begin as early as 4:45 am and can go as late as ually around 8:30 pm our driver calls in reporting the golden nuggets are safe and the borders of our fair cities are secure.good night boss lady. We pick up Huron Eastside, Westside, Northside, Southside. ![]() We stop at Duster’s, the Yellow barn, the water tower, Egg Ranch, PGE, Posa, Amandako, Murphy Flats, and the palm trees. We stop just shy of Avenal, truck on up to Priest Valley and just shy of the San Benito County line in the Los Gatos Canyon. Bus stops include the Harris Horse Unit, Feed Lot, Harris Farms to the "O’Neill" market to Terra Linda Farms to Giannotti Ranch and everything in between. CHUSD drivers consist of our transportation assistant, mechanics, van drivers and of course School Bus drivers.these past few months our team has been shorthanded, we thank Facilities, Maintenance and Operation and Food Services along with our bus drivers and mechanics who make our daily routes, trips and transfers possible.ĬHUSD Drivers drive hundreds of miles a day to get students safely to school. As we honor Coalinga-Huron Unified School District Bus drivers we must include the CHUSD Transportation Team as well as everyone drives our students.
